Table of Contents

The Richardson 111 is a garment-washed trucker hat with a 3-inch crown, a cotton twill front, and a soft mesh back. It has nothing stiffening the front panel, so it sits lower and feels softer than most truckers from the first wear. Below are its specs and fit range, how it compares with the 112 and the printed 111P, and how each customization method looks on it.

What Is the Richardson 111?

The Richardson 111 Garment-Washed Trucker Cap is a six-panel snapback trucker with a cotton front and a mesh back. Here is Richardson's spec sheet, with the number of colors we carry added:

Spec Richardson 111
Front fabric 100% cotton twill, garment-washed
Back 100% polyester soft mesh
Build Unstructured, six-panel
Profile Low
Crown height 3 inches
Bill Pre-curved, contrast stitching
Closure Snapback
Fit Hat sizes 7 to 7 3/4
Colors we carry 22, as of September 2026

Some listings get the fabric wrong: one reseller calls the 111 a 50/50 cotton-polyester blend with a nylon mesh back. Errors like these last because the FTC's fiber-labeling rules under the Textile Act do not cover headwear. A cap needs no fiber-content label, so sellers have nothing on the hat to check against. When listings disagree, trust the maker's sheet, which is what the table above uses.

Most of the 22 colors are two-tone, with a colored front over a khaki, white, or charcoal mesh back. Navy, Black, and Charcoal come in solids. You can shop custom Richardson hats to see every color on the hat before you design.

What Does Garment-Washed Mean?

Garment-washed means the cap goes through a wash after it is sewn, instead of being made from fabric that was washed first. Richardson describes the result as a vintage look. For the person wearing it, the practical difference is softness: the cotton front bends and gives from day one.

The wash happens before the hat reaches us. We add your logo to the finished cap in our own shop. The logo is new and sharp, while the hat around it looks relaxed. Buyers who want that pairing, a crisp mark on a broken-in hat, are the ones the 111 serves best.

The tradeoff is shape. A soft front will not stand tall and upright the way a structured cap does, however long it is worn. If you want that look, the 112 in the next section is the better hat.

Is the Richardson 111 Unstructured? 111 vs 112 vs Legacy OFA

Yes. The Richardson 111 is unstructured and low profile, so the front panel follows the shape of the head instead of standing up on its own. The Richardson 112 Snapback Trucker, one of our best sellers by quantity, is the structured, mid-profile choice with a 60/40 cotton-polyester front. The Legacy OFA Old Favorite Trucker is washed and unstructured like the 111, in a smaller fit.

Richardson 111 Richardson 112 Legacy OFA
Build Unstructured Structured Unstructured
Profile Low Mid Low
Front fabric 100% cotton twill, washed 60/40 cotton/polyester 65/35 cotton/polyester, washed twill
Listed crown figure 3 in crown height About 6 1/2 in, bill to button Not published
Hat sizes 7 to 7 3/4 7 to 7 3/4 (M/L), 7 1/4 to 7 7/8 (XL) 6 5/8 to 7 3/8
Bill Pre-curved, contrast stitch Pre-curved Pre-curved, green undervisor

The 111's sheet lists 3 inches as its crown height. The 112's sheet lists about 6 1/2 inches from the bill to the button on top of the crown. They are different measurements, so the numbers cannot be compared directly. The profile labels, low against mid, are the fair comparison.

Fit is where the 111 and the OFA split. The 111 covers hat sizes 7 to 7 3/4, like a 112 in M/L, while the OFA runs 6 5/8 to 7 3/8. Richardson also makes a Small 111 that we do not list; ask us and we will check whether we can source it. Our low profile trucker hat guide covers how a short crown changes logo proportions and fit on a small head.

Richardson 111 vs 111P

The Richardson 111P Garment Washed Printed Trucker Cap is the camo version of the 111. It keeps the build: unstructured, six-panel, low profile, soft polyester mesh back, pre-curved bill, snapback, and the same 7 to 7 3/4 fit. What changes is the front fabric. The 111P is 100% polyester twill, except its Green Camo and Military Digital Camo prints, which are 100% cotton like the 111.

Richardson 111 Richardson 111P
Front fabric 100% cotton twill 100% polyester twill (two camo prints in cotton)
Look Solid and two-tone colors Printed camo patterns
Colors we carry 22 9 prints
Bill Pre-curved, contrast stitch Pre-curved (no contrast stitch listed)
Fit 7 to 7 3/4 7 to 7 3/4

As of September 2026 we carry nine 111P prints: Green Camo, Military Digital Camo, Shadow Grass Habitat, and six Mossy Oak and Realtree patterns. The Mossy Oak prints are Bottomland, Country DNA, and Obsession, and the Realtree prints are Edge, Max 7, and Timber. Fine lettering gets lost in a busy print, so a camo hat wants a bold mark or a patch with its own background.

How Do You Customize a Richardson 111?

The Richardson 111 offers six placements. They are the full front, the front-left and front-right panels, the back above the snap closure, and the two sides. There is no strap placement on this hat. These are the largest designs Griwolfe produces on it:

Placement Largest design (width x height)
Full front 6 x 2.3 in for embroidery or printing, 6 x 3 in for a patch
Front-left or front-right panel 2.75 x 2 in
Back, above the closure 4 x 2 in
Left or right side 3 x 2 in

Flat embroidery is the natural match for the 111, because flat stitching follows the relaxed front panel. 3D puff embroidery works too, but a raised puff edge looks crispest on a structured front like the 112's. Choose that hat if the raised look matters most.

Any of our five patch types works on the 111: leather, PVC, woven, sublimated, or embroidered. Every patch we make is hand-stitched, on the front, back, or sides. You can design a patch hat and see the patch on the 111 before you order.

For printing, it matters which panels are cotton. The two front panels are cotton twill, and the back and the sides are mesh. Printing goes on the front placements only, because we do not print on mesh. For the back and sides, choose embroidery or a patch.

Who Should Order the Richardson 111?

Pick the Richardson 111 when:

  • You want a hat that feels worn in on the first day, for retail, a lifestyle brand, or staff who will wear it daily.
  • Your logo is a wordmark or a compact icon, or you want it on a patch. All three sit well on a low front.
  • The wearers have average to larger heads, in the 7 to 7 3/4 range.

Look elsewhere when:

  • You want the tall, upright front of a classic trucker. Choose the 112.
  • Your logo is tall or stacked, or you want a crisp 3D puff edge. A structured, taller front suits both.
  • Most wearers have smaller heads. The Legacy OFA gives the same washed feel in a smaller fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Richardson 111 100% cotton?

The front is. Richardson's spec sheet lists the 111's front as 100% cotton twill and its back as 100% polyester soft mesh. Listings that call it a 50/50 blend or give it a nylon mesh back are wrong. The printed 111P is different: its front is polyester twill, except two camo prints in cotton.

Does the Richardson 111 come in a small size?

Richardson makes a Small version of the 111, but we carry the adjustable size, which fits hat sizes 7 to 7 3/4. If most of your wearers have smaller heads, contact us before you order and we will check whether the Small can be sourced. For a washed, unstructured cap in a smaller fit, the Legacy OFA covers 6 5/8 to 7 3/8.

Can you put a leather patch on a Richardson 111?

Yes. A leather patch suits the washed cotton front of the 111. The front patch can run up to 6 inches wide and 3 inches tall. We hand-stitch it on, in genuine or faux leather, debossed or laser engraved.

Can you print on the mesh back of a Richardson 111?

No. We do not print on mesh, so printing on the 111 goes on the cotton front placements only. The mesh back and sides take embroidery or a patch instead. A back design sits above the snap closure and can run up to 4 inches wide and 2 inches tall.

Ordering a Custom Richardson 111

You can order a single Richardson 111, since Griwolfe has no minimum on any customization method. That makes one hat the easiest way to see the washed cotton and the low crown in person. Pick a color, choose a customization method, and place your logo in the Design Studio, where it shows on the actual hat as you build.

One design can run across the 111 and the 111P in any mix of colors. As long as the design, its size, the customization method, and the placement stay the same, the whole mix counts toward one volume price. After you order, we email a production-ready design proof within 1 to 2 business days, and production starts only after you approve it. Standard production is 2 to 3 weeks for embroidery and printing, and 4 to 6 weeks for patches.

Rush is available on request if you contact us before you order. There is no setup fee and no artwork fee, and we offer free U.S. shipping. Browse custom Richardson hats →
